Open Table Church

Introductions forum

What do you do when a church is welcoming, but you still feel like everyone else already knows how to fit in?

People have been kind to me, but there are still moments when I feel like the room already learned a language I missed. I am trying to figure out whether that feeling fades or whether you just learn to work around it.

I think belonging gets easier when people make room for you to learn out loud. The pace matters almost as much as the welcome.

I do better when somebody talks to me like a person and not like I am supposed to already know the church language.

A lot of people arrive slowly and read for a while before they speak. That still counts as belonging.
