Does anyone else feel awkward telling people you go to church because they assume a whole political identity from that alone?

Sometimes I can feel the sorting happen before I have even finished the sentence. I am not ashamed of faith, but I am tired of acting like I owe a full disclaimer every time it comes up.

I am trying to let ordinary steadiness do more work than preemptive explanation. Some people will still project onto me, but I do not have to organize my whole presence around correcting them.
